A YEAR OF LIVING MAGICALLY
What is magic?
As a young girl, at about 11 or 12, I absolutely couldn't get my head around the swimming lessons I'd been taking with my friends every week. We'd pack into our neighbour's mini van every Wednesday evening and the others would noisily throw off their clothes and run to the poolside waiting for the instructor's whistle. "This is it" I'd think. "I'll step in and glide into a float like all the others this week." But I simply couldn't float. I'd drop like a stone. A second course of lessons and a third found me no further on. I was a stone and I knew it.
And then I had a dream.
As I slept one night, I dreamed I was at the side of the pool, holding the bar. There was no noise, no whistles or splashing in my eyes. I felt such peace. Then stretched out my arm and felt the rest of my body follow. I could feel my body find itself supported by the water - and just glide beautifully through. My other arm followed and instinctively my feet propelled me further over the water. I was floating, supported, trusting and it felt marvellous!
In the morning when I woke, I KNEW immediately and with absolute confidence that I could swim now. I had FELT it. I had experienced it in every part of me.
I asked my dad to take me to the swimming pool that evening and as I stepped into the water, my body remembered the dream experience and glided effortlessly across the pool, totally trusting of itself and the water. I was no longer a stone.
It's the knowing - that's the magic.
And we have that knowing inside of us always waiting for us to trust ourselves. To trust our inner wisdom.
It's this knowing that becomes more and more powerful as we grow out of our age of nurturing and transition into the age of wisdom. When we have achieved our status of Wise & Ageless Goddess.
LIVING MAGICALLY
This year, in my monthly conversations with Carol Dooley on her Saturday Live show on Sunshine 106.8fm, I've chosen the theme 'A YEAR OF LIVING MAGICALLY'. Each month, beginning with Vision Boards in January we'll be covering topics that bring more and more magic into our lives so that by the end of 2020 we will have had a whole year of magical living and a toolbox of delightful practices, rituals and exercises to help you stay on track.
January - Vision Board

Visualisation is one of the most powerful exercises your mind can do. According to the popular book 'The Secret', when you are visualising, you are emitting a powerful frequency out to the universe - putting it out there - and asking it to meet you half way in bringing your desires into reality.
JANUARY ALLLOWS US PLAY WITH THE UNIVERSE BY CREATING A VISION BOARD
A Vision Board is a powerful tool to help you narrow down your heart's desire. By visualising your future on this board, it acts as a constant reminder of your life goals. This in turn trains your brain to steer you through every action - towards success. When you visualise your dream home or super sleek car, your brain trains your body for that reality by gearing you towards choices and decisions which will be most likely to set you up for a successful outcome.
An important factor is focusing on how you want to feel when you achieve that goal, buy that car, get offered that dream job. Athletes and sports people have been using visualisation as a powerful tool to help them improve their performance. They see it, feel it, taste it until they can own it.
To create your own vision board you will need:
- Any kind of board. I use thick white board from arts and crafts shops but cork board or cardboard will do just as well.
- Scissors, glue stick, colouring pencils/pens, stickers, and any kind of embellishments you like including buttons, sequins, lace, feathers, fabric, shell etc.
- Magazines, travel brochures, greeting cards, clippings, quotes, old photos, gardening catalogues etc.
There is magic in this exercise so have fun. Invite friends and have a New Year's Vision Board party!
February - Crystals, chakras and your energetic being.

On this months show Carol and I talked about humans as pure energy. Everything in the universe is made up of energy given form, mass and potential depending on the frequency at which this energy vibrates.
Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor suffered a devastating hemorrhagic stroke and the functioning of her left brain hemisphere was wiped out. Her right side remained intact. In her book 'My Stroke of Insight', Dr. Bolte Taylor recounts how with no memory or language and no understanding of 'self', she became acutely aware of the energy surrounding her.
As doctors, nurses and visitors entered her room, she determined that there were only two types of people in the world: those who bring energy and those who drain it away.
Once it became apparent (to her mother) that Dr. Bolte Taylor's recovery of her 'self' was hastened by those who brought positive energy to the space, a notice was placed on her hospital room door. It read, 'You are responsible for the energy you bring to this room.' The doctor's book goes on to explain the power of personal energy and how it affects everything present in your life. If we wish to change any aspect of our lives, we need to become aware of what our intention is and then adopt the energy most likely to contribute to bringing about what we do want to achieve. If we have people in our lives who are 'energy vampires' or 'drains', we need to let them go. If you are responsible for the energy you bring to your space, then you are also responsible for the energy you allow into your space.
Creating energetic boundaries
You will recognise the signs that alerts you to know that you need to cut the cord of attachment to others who are affecting you negatively. You may have:
You may also need to free yourself from energetic ties to aspects of your own life for example:
Archangel Michael
Close your eyes and imagine yourself filled with a golden light. Ask Archangel Michael to come closer to you with his protective sword. See the cord which attaches you to the other person/situation and bathe it in a loving pink light. Ask Michael to gently cut the cord with his sword and release you from the connection to the other person/ situation. In the case of releasing from another person, ask Michael to release the cord so that each of you may continue your journey for your own highest good.
Chakras
The word chakra literally means 'spinning wheel' and these spinning energy centres are found at seven points in our bodies beginning at the base of the spine (the Root chakra) and running to the top of the head (the Crown chakra). These seven chakras govern the prank or life force through our system.
From time to time our chakras can become blocked or overactive and we can experience anything from mild disharmony to chronic illness in our body. *Always seek the opinion of professional healthcare practitioners if you are feeling unwell* When in balance , the chakras provide exactly the right amount of energy to every part of your entire being - mind, body and spirit. The practices of Yoga, Pilates, QiGong, Tai Chi and Reiki, along with others all focus on balancing the flow of energy and maintaining a healthy emotional, spiritual and physical body.

You will recognise the signs that alerts you to know that you need to cut the cord of attachment to others who are affecting you negatively. You may have:
- physical aches such as headache or neck pain during or after being in their company.
- when you think about that person you sense a heavy or burdensome feeling.
- you feel 'stuck' and uncomfortable thinking about them.
- you're not 'yourself' and find you behave in an uncharacteristic manner for example you get caught up with gossip and negative comments about others.
You may also need to free yourself from energetic ties to aspects of your own life for example:
- guilt or shame attached to past mistakes.
- ruminations about sad episodes or when you may have 'missed the boat'.
- find that you take on other people's problems and want to fix them.
- worrying about how someone else lives their life.
